Road to the finals

Both the Melbourne Matildas and Perth Panthers will make their grand final debuts this time out. The Melbourne Matildas have been a crowd favourite throughout season one and two. After a semifinal upset in season two, the Melbourne Matildas will look to take victory in season three. In season three, the Matildas defeated second ranked South Sydney Skorpions 4-2, in the semifinal. They’ve played a little more consistently during this season, only dropping one game in the playoffs and earning three victories.

As for the Perth Panthers, the Wargaming dev team is calling them the “Cinderella story.” They came into the competition having finished season two dead last. The first half of season three saw the team on a very similar path. Later in the season however, they turned it around, claiming three victories. They earned their playoffs spot during their last round. The Panthers came into the the semifinal against the back-to-back defending champions, North Sydney Sentinels. The Panthers dominated the game, taking a 4-2 victory on the back of a stellar second half of the season performance.

Now, it’s down to these two Aussie teams from opposite sides of the country. Jake Truman, the World of Tanks ANZ Product Manager, said season three has been the most exciting of the ANZ Premier Leagues yet. He said the finals “will be a genuine East Coast vs. West Coast finale with both teams hungry for the win. We expect plenty of star power as well, with three of the five Fantasy League ‘Team of the Season’ players playing for the Matildas or Panthers.”
