When is the release date for Hogwarts Legacy?

Hogwarts Legacy is one of the most anticipated titles of 2022. Its hype train has grown even larger after this week’s 14-minute gameplay trailer at the PlayStation State of Play event.  One lingering question fans still have about the game is when exactly it will release. A concrete release date for Hogwarts Legacy has been rumored but not confirmed by official sources.

After the State of Play trailer went live, fans got to see when Warner Bros. Games are planning on releasing the game. However, it wasn’t an exact date like many fans were hoping for.

The release date for Hogwarts Legacy

The official release date, as of right now, for Hogwarts Legacy is “Holiday 2022.” This is what it says on the Hogwarts Legacy website FAQ, which is as official as fans are going to get at this point in time.

While this doesn’t give fans an exact date, it does bolster hope that the game will still release this year. Previously, leaks indicated that Hogwarts Legacy was releasing in September of 2022 to accompany a companion book about the making of the game.

September isn’t necessarily considered to be in the “Holiday” season, however, so it seems that rumor might be squashed. The most likely release window for the game appears to be November-December. This is generally considered to be the holiday season that developers refer to when providing a release date for a game.

Though Harry Potter fans will look forward to the holiday season even more so now, there still remains a possibility the game could be delayed. It was originally delayed from 2021 to 2022 and the world is as unpredictable as ever in today’s times. If a delay does indeed need to happen, it would likely be announced during the summer or fall to allow the developers as much time as possible to make sure Hogwarts Legacy is ready for launch.
