Valorant guide: How to play the destructive Raze

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

After a set time of playing Riot Games’ Valorant, you can unlock the character Raze, who uses an array of explosive abilities to decimate her opponents. Raze’s abilities should be utilized to damage her enemies as much as possible, especially in tight areas. Her special skills make her an excellent character for both offense and defense.

Riot will very possibly nerf Raze in the near future due to her explosive power. Until then, though, here is a breakdown of her abilities, plus suggestions on how to use them.

Ability 1 – Boom Bot

For her first ability, Raze deploys a robot that moves ahead, bouncing off walls until it finds an enemy. Then it locks onto them and, upon reaching them, explodes. If Boom Bot is not destroyed before reaching its enemies, it does heavy damage.

This ability is great on the offense and defense. You should use it mainly for information, as it lets you know if there are enemies in a certain place. If you’re lucky enough, you’ll deal damage to them as well. Deploying Boom Bot in tight spaces like narrow corridors guarantees a higher chance that it will catch your enemies off-guard.

Ability 2 – Blast Pack

Raze’s second ability makes her throw a sticky Blast Pack that explodes if detonated manually, or after a few seconds. Blast Pack has multiple uses, giving it some great utility. Firstly, you can use it to damage unsuspecting enemies if targeted right. Secondly, it can be used to destroy Sage’s walls instead of using up precious ammunition. On top of that, Blast Pack can be used to propel Raze into the air, much like Jett’s Updraft ability, creating interesting angles for herself.

Signature – Paint Shells

Raze’s signature ability is a cluster grenade that does immense damage. If thrown into a group of enemies, it can deal crazy amounts of damage, or even kill them outright. The grenade can bounce off walls, too, meaning that Raze can throw Paint Shells behind corners without showing herself. You should use this ability at least once per round, as one out of two grenades is attained for free each round.

Ultimate – Showstopper

Raze’s ultimate ability is simply a rocket launcher that does incredible area damage. This is the perfect ability to use on the offensive after planting a spike. It’s also excellent on the defense, decimating offensive players on the bombsite.

Final Thoughts

  • Raze has an array of offensive skills. We recommend being one of the first to enter bombsites with her. Then, use Paint Shells and Blast Pack to clear areas where enemies could be lurking or hiding.
  • Use the Boom Bot to see if enemies lie ahead. This can grant you essential information in a round of Valorant.
  • Use Paint Shells at least once each round, since one is renewed anyway. It is extremely powerful right now.
  • Use the Blast Pack to propel yourself onto areas that give you a different angle such as Sage’s wall or tall boxes. This can give your enemies a nasty surprise.

Again, Raze has a good chance of seeing nerfs, but for now, these tips and tricks should serve you well.
