Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s first wave of DLC, The Teal Mask, brings both new and old Pokémon to the latest generation. Ursaluna is an evolution of Ursaring introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, that received a surprise, exclusive form in the Teal Mask known as Bloodmoon Ursaluna.
This rare form of Ursaluna is found at the end of a DLC-exclusive side quest where, after completing it, you can catch it for yourself.
How to start the Bloodmoon Ursaluna side quest
The sidequest to capture Bloodmoon Ursaluna is available at any point during the adventure in Kitakami, but comes with a lengthy pre-requisite.
You’ll start by speaking to Perrin, a photographer located just west of the Pokémon Center with her partner Hisuian Growlithe. She’ll ask to see your Kitakami Pokédex once it has 150 entries, meaning you’ll need to catch 150 Pokémon to fill it up. Luckily, there is a fair amount of crossover between Kitakami and Paldea’s Pokédexes, so if you’ve been catching Pokémon during your main adventure through Paldea, you’re likely to have a decent head start.
Once you’ve captured the 150 required Pokémon, speak to Perrin to begin the side quest.
How to complete the Bloodmoon Ursaluna side quest
After speaking to Perrin with your Kitakami Pokédex filled, she’ll ask you for a battle to prove your strength. Upon defeating her, she’ll tell you about the “Bloodmoon Beast” that she wishes to get a photo of. You’ll then need to meet her in the Timeless Woods, located in the northeastern corner of the map.
Next, you’ll need to take photos of 10 different Pokémon on foggy nights. Thankfully, you won’t need to wait for the weather to change in real time, as simply talking to Perrin will make it a foggy night.
Once you’ve taken the 10 photos for Perrin, she will ask you if you’re ready to face the Bloodmoon Ursaluna. Once you accept, the game will lead you into the fight.
The boss fight functions much like a Titan battle in the main game or the battles versus the Loyal Three in the DLC. Once you defeat Bloodmoon Ursaluna, you’ll be given the option to capture it.
This Pokémon is no joke with its formidable defenses and high Special Attack stat. Its combination of Normal and Ground-type moves hit hard, especially if it gets off a Calm Mind to further boost its power and Special Defense. Bloodmoon Ursaluna’s signature ability, Mind’s Eye, also allows it to hit Ghost Pokémon with Normal-type moves so keep that in mind as well.
After catching the Bloodmoon Ursaluna, Perrin will meet you back in Mossui Town. She’ll give you some valuable rewards, including a gift Hisuian Growlithe.
