Piranha Plant just released in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and already problems are arising. This new DLC character is causing havoc for some players who are reporting a major issue when using him in All-Star Smash mode. Apparently, it is causing the game to crash and your game data and even save data can become corrupted. If true, this is not exactly a great start for Nintendo’s first DLC character for Smash. Other reports posted online state that the bug seems to be only with the digital copies of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Other users online are also reporting this happens in Classic Mode, so perhaps its better to avoid using Piranha Plant (as interesting as he may be to use) till Nintendo clarifies and fixes it. For those who don’t know, All-Star Smash is a new take on the previous All-Star modes. Basically, you battle all 70+ fighters and attempt to defeat them all in one shot.
It’s no small bug
Basically, this issue has forced some to actually have to reinstall the game, since if their save data was not backed up to the cloud, they could lose everything. That would be quite annoying to lose all your progress and character unlocks that take a fair bit of effort in the first place. It takes quite a long time to run through that big fat story mode, after all. Twitter account Super Smash Bros Ultimate News warned players yesterday about the issue. That tweet has been liked and shared thousands of times since, so it’s good that the news is spreading quickly throughout the fan base.
There have been multiple reports of Pirahna Plant corrupting save files of those who use him in All-Star mode. Please be wary of this while playing the game! pic.twitter.com/Ywhod1sn2d

So Smash fans, take caution and make sure to back up your data either locally or in the cloud to avoid disaster. We will, of course, have an update for you once we hear from Nintendo.
