“Nerd Street Gamers is committed to supporting all levels of esports, from amateur tournaments to the highest tier of professional events like the Philadelphia Fusion homestands,” said John Fazio, Founder and CEO of Nerd Street Gamers, in a release. “By powering professional esports at a local level, our goal is to inspire and motivate fans to take advantage of the incredible opportunities that esports can provide.”

In Season 3 of the Overwatch League, teams will host home and away games. The Philadelphia Fusion will host three matches in total. Two of them will take place at The Met Philadelphia on Feb. 15 – 16 and May 23 – 24. The third will be at the Boardwalk Hall on June 6 – 7.

Nerd Street Gamers will handle all aspects of event production. This includes creative, infrastructure, in-venue experience, staffing, and security. The company has experience managing and producing tournaments for Harrisburg University, DreamHack Atlanta, and its own Localhost ‘PC cafe’ venues. Since this will be the first time the Philadelphia Fusion has competed locally, Nerd Street Gamers will ensure that there is an exciting and social atmosphere for fans.

Nerd Street Gamers’ esports experience

“We witnessed Philadelphia’s passion for esports when we hosted a sold-out crowd for the Overwatch League Grand Finals at Wells Fargo Center last September,” said Julie Truong, Director of Business Operations, Philadelphia Fusion. “After spending the past two years in Burbank, California, the team is excited to finally play on home turf in front of our incredible fans. We can’t wait to provide an unforgettable experience that gives fans a taste of what’s to come once Fusion Arena opens its doors in 2021.”

The Philadelphia Fusion’s parent company is Spectacor Gaming, which owns the Philadelphia Flyers and Wells Fargo Center. While it has experience hosting events like the Overwatch League Grand Finals and other traditional sports games, its partnership with Nerd Street Gamers will help leverage latter’s experience in esports.
