Nerd Street Gamers and PlayVS partner for high school esports

Esports infrastructure company Nerd Street Gamers has announced a partnership with high school esports platform PlayVS. The two companies will collaborate on competitive opportunities for gamers, with the former being named the broadcast partner of the PlayVS High School Esports Championship in 2020.

“Competitive gaming starts at a young age. Together with PlayVS, we are fostering and publicizing inclusive competitive opportunities for young gamers across the country,” said John Fazio, Founder and CEO of Nerd Street Gamers, in a release. “We are creating a movement that develops camaraderie, teamwork, and communication skills through esports.”

As part of the partnership, Nerd Street Gamers will stream PlayVS state high school championship matches on Twitch for Rocket League and League of Legends. The broadcasts will cover 13 states throughout the months of January and early February. The Colorado League of Legends high school championship will also be hosted at Nerd Street’s Localhost Denver esports facility. 

This partnership is the latest after several previous ones involving the eMLS League Series One, Philadelphia Eagles Madden Club Championship, and Vets Play tournament in collaboration with Comcast.

PlayVS for high school esports

“Despite massive growth, many schools, students, and parents are unfamiliar with how high school esports actually works. We’re building a world of exciting opportunities for student engagement through esports,” said Delane Parnell, Founder and CEO of PlayVS. “With our Nerd Street Gamers partnership, we hope to shine a light on this initiative and showcase these impressive students and their skills to a national audience.”

Nerd Street Gamers will produce recap videos of several PlayVS events like regional championships. These will feature game-winning plays and the high school players that have achieved them.

The PlayVS platform handles scheduling, logistics, statistics, and other aspects for competition in the high school esports scene. It provides schools and administrators with the ability to offer esports as an extracurricular activity.
