The hype behind the September release of NBA 2K20 continued on Monday when the trailer for the game’s MyCareer mode was unveiled over the league’s social media. The trailer featured a quick look at the mode’s storyline with appearances from stars in both the film industry and NBA.
The MyCareer cast
The NBA 2K franchise has built a reputation for its MyCareer mode. Previous versions featured popular figures from outside the basketball world. From the trailer, the most notable voices include decorated actor Idris Elba and actress Rosario Dawson. Jaleel White, well-known for his role as Steve Urkel in the TV show Family Matters, also makes an appearance late in the trailer. Ernie Hudson, Lamorne Morris, Maverick Carter, and Thomas Middleditch additionally feature throughout the premiere.

Appearances NBA fans will be familiar with include the Los Angeles Lakers stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Davis is one of the cover athletes for NBA 2K20 along with future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade. Other notable NBA stars to make an appearance in the trailer are Kemba Walker, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Kyle Kuzma.
James and Carter worked together through their media production company, SpringHill Entertainment, to start the planning process of the game mode. The pair partnered with NBA 2K20 developers to bring the story behind the MyCareer mode together.
MyCareer game mode
NBA 2K20‘s MyCareer mode takes the player through the life of an NBA athlete both on and off the court. The game mode is titled “When The Lights Are Brightest.” This is coupled with the trailer that highlights the pressure athletes face in big moments.
From Monday’s trailer, the MyCareer mode will take players through many controversial topics in today’s competitive landscape. The trailer’s storyline showed conflicts with coaches, working with a questionable agent, and dealing with the pressure of making the pro league.
