Misfits Gaming have sent a statement out to the rest of Europe after their dismantling of SK Gaming today. After this week, they are clearly a team to watch in the LEC.

Misfits were coming off of a convincing victory over Rogue Gaming, behind the Draven play of Steven “Hans Sama” Liv. They were clearly the better team over the newly-arrived Rogue, but their next task would be much more difficult, right? SK Gaming were roaring after their impressive upset victory of Fnatic. As a result, their trio of rookie players were becoming more and more hyped leading up to this match. For example, former MAD Lions member, Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek, put on a clinic in the jungle for SK. Who would come out on top, the “other” European superteam or this fiery new SK roster?
Misfits Manhandles SK
It was an even greater stomp that yesterday for Misfits, who would take down SK Gaming in one of the fastest games of the weekend. Right from the get-go, Misfits were tearing apart the Rift with exceptional laning and teamplay. At the four-minute mark, Misfits already had a 2.5K gold lead over their opponents. At the twelve minute mark, they were up eight kills to two with a 5.3K gold lead. It was a slaughter for 23 minutes and SK Gaming simply looked outmatched. Additionally, Misfits would end the game with 21 kills to SK’s four.

Hans Sama and Nubar “Maxlore” Sarafian would collect seven kills apiece, showing off some beautiful macro play. Meanwhile, SK Gaming’s inexperience was on display today. We cannot forget that this team is relatively young, with a few newcomers to the LEC scene. They cannot get cocky, as there will be some hiccups along the way to success. Their bottom lane took the brunt of the punishment today, with Juš “Crownshot” Marušič and Han “Dreams” Min-kook attributing to almost half of the team’s deaths. They were constantly caught out by the trio of Maxlore, Hans Sama and Misfits’ new support, Kang “GorillA” Beom-hyeon.
Looking Forward
Misfits have Origen and Vitality up next week, which should be a good test for the team. Origen was able to defeat Fnatic in a back-and-forth match today, so we will see if that squad can try to take down Misfits. Vitality went 1-1 this weekend and is still trying to find more synergy with their new jungler, Lee “Mowgli” Jae-ha. Their hyper-aggressive style of play should be exciting to watch against Misfits as well. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until February 15th to see this superteam face off against G2 Esports.
On the other hand, SK Gaming must feel humbled after the thrashing they took from Misfits. They need to regroup and prepare for Schalke 04 and EXCEL Esports next weekend. Schalke 04 was looking like a good team so far, even though they were stomped by G2 Esports today. That veteran roster will be a great test for SK Gaming’s young team, as they will need to innovate how they play the game.
