Five months of decline: Counter-Strike 2 keeps bleeding players

Counter-Strike 2 can’t seem to stop the outflow. According to fresh Steamcharts data, the game’s average concurrent player count has slipped for the fifth month running – the kind of prolonged slide Valve’s shooter last endured back in 2021.

A slide that started in spring

Every month since the year’s early highs has come in lower than the last, from March all the way through July. By July the average had settled around 853,000 concurrent players. Rewind to February and that figure stood north of 1.08 million.

A summer dip on its own wouldn’t raise eyebrows. Player counts across most titles tend to sag once people head outdoors, and that pattern repeats every year. The awkward part here is where the decline began: March, April and May, a stretch that usually holds firm or ticks upward rather than sinking.

Not since 2021 has the game strung together five consecutive months of shrinking numbers.

Cheating remains the sore spot

Point the finger, and it lands on anti-cheat. Discontent over how Valve handles cheaters in competitive matchmaking has simmered for a long time, and it’s still one of the community’s loudest and most persistent complaints.

That frustration looks to be catching up with the game. With the player base running short on patience, the summer figures hand the critics fresh ammunition.
