Minecraft LIVE on Saturday, September 26, was packed. The Sift stole the headlines as the game’s first new dimension in over 14 years, but Mojang had plenty more to show.
Here’s what else is coming.
Ice Caves are the next game drop
The next drop adds Ice Caves, a rare new cave biome that forms beneath cold regions.
The caves are filled with ice crystals and icicles. The crystals can be placed vertically or horizontally and work as a light source, giving builders a new option for colder-looking builds.
Mojang also warned that lighting inside the caves can become a problem, so expect them to be more dangerous than they look.
Meet the Frozen Zombie
Part of that danger comes from a new mob:
- Melee attacks stack a Freezing effect that eventually freezes players
- Ice balls give it a ranged attack that deals damage and knocks targets back
- Drops include ice balls, which players can also craft and throw
Ice balls can be brewed into a potion that applies Freezing as well.
Regular Zombies turn into Frozen Zombies after spending time in powder snow. That adds another step to the Husk-to-Zombie chain, which mob farm builders will appreciate.
Minecraft Dungeons II can finally jump
Minecraft Dungeons II launches on September 29, and one small feature got the developers genuinely excited: jumping.
It opens up small parkour sections with hidden secrets, and it can be used for jump attacks in combat.
The sequel starts in Bravehaven, where players help Villagers find a new home before soul corruption begins spreading across the Overworld. The world is more interconnected than in the original, and Villagers play a bigger role in the story.
Post-launch DLC is already planned.
Sound Effects Packs
Minecraft Marketplace is also getting Sound Effects Packs later this year, adding another layer of customization.
