The first weekend in September has seen the Melbourne Esports Open 2018 descend upon the city’s Olympic Park. Tucked away in the Margaret Court Arena was the FGC stage, ready for its debut appearance at the event. Five titles were played across the weekend, including Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tekken 7, and Street Fighter V.
The turnout by both players and fans to the inaugural FGC stage event was impressive and welcoming, and it is hopefully a sign of things to come in future years. Highlights included Saber’s win with Cloud against Joe in the SSB Wii U final, as well as the nail-biting finish to SSBM‘s final between DarkSided’s Spud and Melbourne Order’s Sora.
