The Chinese New Year is coming on Jan. 25, and so to celebrate Magic: The Gathering (MTG) has announced a brand new Secret Lair set: Year of the Rat! For those who may be unfamiliar with the theme of previous Secret Lair sets, check out our article on past Secret Lair sets. To summarize, Secret Lair sets are exclusive products available only for 24 hours. The set features special prints of cards already in existence, and the contents are guaranteed. Essentially, you are buying alternate art singles from Wizards of the Coast directly.
So what Magic cards are in this special Year of the Rat Secret Lair? Well, rats, of course! Some of the most popular rat cards in all of MTG are featured with beautiful (and cute) new art! Check it out!
If you’re a fan of rats in Commander, or just want to bling out your kitchen table rat deck, this is the set for you! Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni is the classic rat commander, so it’s exciting to see her make a return. Pack Rat was a house back in Standard and has been seeing some Pioneer play as of late. Rat Colony is the de facto rat card, and since you can have any number of them in your deck, you get five to start out with in this set. Marrow Gnawer is an excellent rat lord and works well in any deck focusing on rats. Overall, excellent picks for the tribe.
How to get Year of the Rat Secret Lair
Just like the last Secret Lair, Year of the Rat will be available at secretlair.wizards.com. The set will only be available for 24 hours on Jan. 27, starting at 9 a.m. PST.
