Along your travels in LEGO Fortnite, you will eventually need to find and use Cut Amber, which can only be acquired after locating and cutting Rough Amber.
Both Rough and Cut Amber are primarily used in the upgrading of your village and making stronger axes, both of which are extremely important in the progression loop of LEGO Fortnite. However, the game does not really tell you where you can find Rough Amber, which means you might struggle to get Cut Amber for some time. In the guide below, I’ll explain exactly where you can find Rough Amber and how to make Cut Amber from it.
Finding Rough Amber in LEGO Fortnite
Rough Amber is only located in the Dry Valley (desert) biome in LEGO Fortnite. This biome is full of sand, cacti, large rock formations, and dry plants. Once you’re in the desert biome, Rough Amber should be pretty easy to find and add to your inventory. It’s difficult to miss, as it’s the yellow ore that’s commonly found on the rocks in the desert.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any way to find specific biomes you’re looking for. It appears to be random based on your server, so you will have to go through the map until you find the orange sand of the Dry Valley biome.
If you manage to stumble across the desert, all you need to do is look at the large rock formations to find Rough Amber. It might be fairly high up on the rocks, so you will need to build a ladder to reach the amber in this case. Stairs can be built using wood from your inventory, so keep building them until you’re high enough to reach the Rough Amber. Rough Amber is also sometimes reachable just by walking along the rocks, so make sure you’re looking all around the biome.

Once you’re facing some Rough Amber, you can mine it by using an uncommon pickaxe or stronger. With the Rough Amber now in your possession, you can either choose to upgrade your village with it or build a Gem Cutter, which should now be unlocked now that you have acquired Rough Amber. You can build the Gem Cutter using 20 Marble Slab, 5 Rough Amber, 5 Sand Claw, and 3 Sand Shell.
With the Gem Cutter, you can insert your Rough Amber to refine it into Cut Amber, which is used in upgrading your pickaxe so you can mine even better ore in LEGO Fortnite.
