As the Masters Tournament continues in the “Pokémon Journeys: The Series” anime, Pokémon Sword and Shield players can play along by receiving special event Pokémon. Over the next month, players will be able to obtain five Pokémon from Ash Ketchum’s current team.
While his iconic Pikachu is excluded from the mix, players can still look forward to a number of event distributions in the coming weeks. Here’s everything to know about the most recent distribution, which will grant players access to Ash’s Gengar in Pokémon Sword and Shield, just in time for the Halloween season.

How to get Ash’s Gengar in Pokémon Sword and Shield
Players can get their hands on this spooky Ghost/Poison-type Pokémon as a Mystery Gift. To access it, players will have to press the X button to open up the main menu. From there, they can click on “Mystery Gift.”
Next, players must press “Get a Mystery Gift,” then “Get with Code/Password.” Afterward, they will be prompted to connect their console to the internet. If the player has an internet connection, they can then enter the code GENN GER0 GE94.
Like other codes distributed as part of this promotion, this code will only work for a limited time. In this case, the code will expire on September 15. Still, this gives players a window of about two weeks during which they can download Ash’s Gengar in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

What to know about the Gengar
Ash’s Gengar has the Naughty Nature in Pokémon Sword and Shield. This Nature boosts its Attack and lowers its Special Defense, making it a bit unhelpful for a special attacker that is already quite frail.
Nevertheless, the Pokémon comes at level 80 and has Cursed Body as its Ability, meaning it has a 30% chance to disable any move that hits it. Fitting its naturally high Special Attack, the Gengar’s moveset includes Shadow Ball, Sludge Bomb, Dazzling Gleam and Will-O-Wisp.
This is the third of Ash’s Pokémon to join the game during this promotion, following his Dracovish and Dragonite. In the coming weeks, players can also look out for download codes that will grant them access to Ash’s Sirfetch’d and Lucario.
