Halo: The Master Chief Collection to receive official PC release on Steam

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Halo fans rejoice! This afternoon Brian Jarrard, the Community Director of 343 Industries, went on the Inside Xbox show with some exciting Halo news. Rumors about this release had been swirling for a few weeks now, but 343 still delivered a few surprise details that were not predicted. First off, Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to Steam; in fact, the listing is already live. The page is sparse with details, but it’s awesome to actually see Halo on Steam.

Second, each game in Halo: The Master Chief Collection will be released in a rolling schedule on PC. This will start with Halo: Reach, which is new to the Master Chief Collection on both PC and Xbox.

After Reach, the additional games will be released in chronological order starting with Halo: Combat Evolved. This almost episodic release will give players time to fully appreciate each game, and allow 343 Industries to make sure each rollout goes smoothly. Unfortunately, no timeline or dates were given for any of these releases.

Brian Jarrard was very specific in saying that none of these games on PC would be a straight port from the Xbox version, going as far to refer to “port” as “the P word.” According to Brian, the developers are focused on making sure each game has the features PC gamers have come to expect, such as adjustable framerate and FOV sliders. This attention to detail is excellent news, especially considering the original Halo: Combat Evolved PC port.

As an unabashed Halo fan and PC enthusiast, it’s safe to say I’ve been waiting for this news for what feels like forever. More details for the upcoming PC release can be found at Halo Waypoint and at 343 Industries’ panel at South by Southwest in Austin, TX. Needless to say, my eyes will be glued to both for more details and hopefully an official release date.
