Giovanna is one of two new characters in Guilty Gear Strive. She is a Secret Service agent tasked with protecting the president of the United States wielding a wolf spirit named Rei. Giovanna is classified as a rushdown character by Guilty Gear Strive. This guide will give players the tools they need to excel as Giovanna in Guilty Gear Strive.

Upcomer’s Guilty Gear Strive character guides use numpad notation. Numpad notation is a universal form of notating fighting game inputs that is able to go past language barriers. It is based off numpads that can be found on a computer keyboard. Five is the joystick at neutral and the numbers branch out from there. For example, 236 would translate to “down, down-forward, forward” in numpad notation.

Command normals

Move Name Input Description
Command Normal 1 6P Giovanna does a short jab forward. This move has upper body invincibility, making it a good move to counter jump-ins and aerial attacks.
Command Normal 2 6HS Giovanna leaps through the air to do a series of kicks. You can press HS up to two times for follow ups. This move will knockdown on the third hit. The sequence can also be delayed to use during pressure situations.

Special attacks

Move Name Input Description
Sepultura 214K Giovanna moves forward and attacks with Rei. This move comes out very fast, making it usable in combos. Additionally, when blocked it will leave Giovanna with advantage.
Trovão 236K Giovanna barrels forward, using Rei to lunge at the opponent. This move comes out at a decent speed and has low recovery, making it good for surprising opponents.
Sol Nascente 623S Giovanna does a cartwheel kick. This move is not a dragon punch because it does not have invincibility. but it is an effective anti-air.
Sol Poente 214S (Air OK) Giovanna jumps forward and does a split kick in the air. This move will work as a cross-up if used at close range, making it a good move to mix-up your opponent.

Move Name Input Description
Ventania 632146HS Giovanna does a series of spinning handstand kicks. This move will do more hits if landed near the opponent. It has fast startup making it a good move to end combos with for big damage.
Tempestade 236236HS in mid-air Giovanna lunges down from the air to knock her opponent back in the air for a series of strikes. This move comes out fast, making it good for including in air combos.
