GTA 6 leaks force Rockstar out of hiding – on the eve of its own reveal

Rockstar has finally spoken about the leaked Grand Theft Auto VI footage. In a statement posted to Instagram, the studio called the leaks “heartbreaking for our team”.

It arrives a day before the game’s official unveiling on Netflix, and a full week after the first clip surfaced.

Fifteen gameplay videos have circulated in that time, attributed to a leaker or group calling itself Cyberleek. Rockstar said nothing about any of them until now.

The apology is the surprising bit

The studio also says sorry. Not for the leaks, but for the wait: how long the game has taken to finish, and how little has been shared along the way.

Rockstar puts the game close to done.

That is not how this company usually talks. Its marketing runs on scarcity, a trailer when it suits and silence in between. Apologising for that silence reads like an admission that the leakers filled a gap Rockstar left open.

The spoiler line is harder to buy

The statement asks fans to hold out for launch on 19 November rather than let the leaks spoil the intended experience.

That is a stretch. None of the clips show missions or story beats, and the locations in them look ordinary enough.

It also skips the obvious question: what else would players do but wait? Unless the worry is how far the build in Cyberleek’s hands might travel.

Hard to see much lasting harm either way. This is still a game headed for the biggest launch the industry has had. The Netflix reveal is tomorrow.
