If you are sick of shelling out cash on “blind” Loot Llamas in Fortnite‘s Save the World mode, we have good news for you. Today, Epic Games made an official announcement that it was removing the “blind” aspect of purchasing these llamas. Players will now be able to know exactly what is inside before they hit the “buy” button.
The new feature is being called “X-Ray Llamas.” This major change will occur in the next big update for Fortnite. Players can now breathe a sigh of relief and simply wait to see which llama holds the goods they want, all before they purchase it.
Here’s what Epic Games had to say today:
Since launch, we’ve been refining the way you expand your item collection, We previously introduced loot drops, the ability to directly acquire any non-event item through the Collection Book, Llama dupe prevention, as well as gameplay-based event rewards, and now we’re ready to take the next big step. Introducing “X-Ray” Llamas! Previously known as V-Buck Llamas, X-Ray Llamas will now show you the contents before you purchase it. Not interested in what the Llama offers? Simply wait until the daily store refresh and there will be a new selection.
Loot boxes exist in many popular games such as Overwatch and PUBG, just to name a few, and some have compared them to gambling since players don’t know what they’ll get until after purchasing. Now that Epic is eliminating that aspect of Fortnite’s Loot Llamas, it should make shopping much easier. Players can now get exactly what they want.
What else is new
Another important detail avid Fortnite players should know about in the update is that prices of llamas will remain the same and you can still earn them during normal gameplay. Items you can get in the llama are based on what your account already has, in order to prevent duplicates from occurring. Dupe prevention was actually added back in the v5.10 patch. Players also will no longer be able to purchase multiple V-Buck Llamas at once. That comes into effect once the next update goes live.
If you already own the Save the World Bundle, Epic is giving you five free llama upgrade tokens so you can try it out for yourself. It is definitely a step in the right direction for players and Epic Games. What remains to be seen is if other games will follow suit.
