Victor, who admitted the positive test was his, is the second at the tournament to test positive through a PCR test. Team Liquid’s Nabil “Nivera” Benrlitom was the first to test positive before the event began on Dec. 1.

“The health and safety of players and staff at VCT Champions continued to be our highest priority,” explained Francois on Twitter. “During mandatory testing, a member of Team Envy produced a positive result from a PCR test.”

Following Nivera’s positive test, Francois announced that the games would continue as anticipated with the affected player playing in isolation and their teammates playing from another room. Additionally, teams with players that have tested positive will play later in the day to accommodate for the shift in the stage.

“In preparation for Champions, our regional and global teams prepared multiple contingency plans to ensure that if the players felt able to play, the tournament could continue with minimal disruptions,” continued Francois.

Envy responds to positive COVID-19 test

After the official announcement from Francois came out about a member of Envy testing positive for COVID-19, Victor stepped forward and recognized that the test was his. He also expressed his desire to play on the Champions stage.

“I tested positive on two different PCR tests yesterday,” said Victor on Twitter. “Super sad the LAN experience is ruined for my team and our opponents. I’m heartbroken…sorry.”

Victor was not the only member of Envy to speak out about the positive test. Austin “crashies” Roberts expressed his heartbreak for not being able to play on stage and Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker took a more positive note.

“Unlucky for other teams,” said yay on Twitter. “The hotel is our home turf. We will have the advantage.”
