Cleveland Cavaliers NBA 2K team, Cavs Legion, unveils esports center

The Cavs Legion Gaming Club unveiled plans for a 2,700-square foot esports center. The NBA 2K League team is an affiliate of the NBA franchise Cleveland Cavaliers team. The esports center will be located in Cleveland’s Battery Park neighborhood and serve as a practice facility for the team. The facility will be open to the public for tournaments and events. It will also feature state-of-the-art gaming technology along with “broadcast capabilities” for content creation and live streaming.

The main area includes 40 gaming stations with Alienware gaming desktops, Raynor gaming chairs, and SteelSeries peripherals. There are also several streaming pods located around the area for content creators to live stream from. The middle of the venue showcases a two-level stage for players to compete against each other on.

“We’re thrilled to introduce this state-of-the-art facility designed to provide esports enthusiasts from Cleveland, Northeast Ohio and beyond a place to come together to compete, create and celebrate the world of competitive gaming,” said Nic Barlage, the President of Business Operations for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Some of the other components of the facility include a content studio for video production. An analyst desk is located nearby for esports media to commentate on gaming that is going on. A 5 GB/S Everstream internet network will ensure that players can operate in a zero-lag environment. Also, a GE smart lighting system will allow the venue to quickly transition to different color schemes.

“Not only will this training center give our Cavs Legion team a first-class venue to practice and sharpen their skills for the NBA 2K League, but it will also provide our region’s next generation of star gamers best-in-class tools to fuel their passion for esports,” continued Barlage.

The facility will host public tournaments, esports educational programs, and may open up rental opportunities to the public as well. A grand opening event will take place during the fall of 2019. The Cavs Legion GC sit at 10th place in the 2019 standings with 8 wins and losses. The team is currently tied with Bucks Gaming, Raptors Uprising GC, and Jazz Gaming.

This esports center announcement comes shortly after 100 Thieves also announced a facility in Los Angeles. Both teams are backed by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but one is directly affiliated.
