Shiny Tangela and Tangrowth in Pokémon GO

Can Tangela be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Grass-green spaghetti, anyone?

On the surface, there isn’t much benefit to a Pokémon like Tangela being shiny. In a typical Pokémon game, it simply means the Pokémon has a different color scheme and sparkles when it is sent out into battle. However, these special variants don’t typically fare better in battle than their normally-colored counterparts.

Nevertheless, shiny Pokémon are still surrounded with prestige because of how uncommon they are. Shiny hunting is a popular pastime for Pokémon players as they attempt to catch the rarest version of each monster. While shiny rates work a bit differently in Pokémon GO, the game still gives trainers the chance to obtain unique variants of their favorite Pokémon.

However, not every Pokémon that is available in Pokémon GO also has a shiny form present in the game. Here’s everything you need to know about whether Tangela can be shiny in Pokémon GO.

Can Tangela be shiny in Pokémon GO?

Tangela can be shiny in Pokémon GO. Shiny variants of the Grass-type spaghetti monster first started appearing in the mobile game during Pokémon GO Fest 2020. However, these shiny monsters can still be found to this day if you ever stumble across a Tangela in the wild.

Tangela hasn’t yet experienced a boost to its shiny odds, so there is only a 0.2% chance that any given Tangela will be shiny. Keep in mind that Pokémon don’t appear shiny in the overworld of Pokémon GO. As a result, you will need to click on a wild Tangela before you can see whether it is a rare bright green or the standard bluish color.

Although Tangela was part of a Spotlight Hour in April of 2023, it has never been the subject of a Community Day. However, if there ever is a Tangela Community Day, players can expect to find many Tangela in the wild with a much higher 4% chance to be shiny.

As a Grass-type, Tangela is weak to Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice and Poison but resists Electric, Grass, Ground and Water. Its stats are predominantly geared toward offense as it has 183 Attack, 169 Defense and 163 Stamina.

Tangela can learn Vine Whip or Infestation as its Fast Attack. Meanwhile, its available Charged Attacks include Sludge Bomb, Solar Beam, Grass Knot, Power Whip, Frustration and Return, with the latter two being exclusive to Shadow Tangela and Purified Tangela, respectively.

If you spend 100 Tangela Candy and a Sinnoh Stone, you will be able to evolve your Tangela into Tangrowth. Tangrowth is much bulkier and stronger with 207 Attack, 184 Defense and 225 Stamina. While it can’t learn Grass Knot like its pre-evolution, Tangrowth does gain access to two new Charged Attacks: Ancient Power and Rock Slide.
