In the base version of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, trainers got the chance to briefly venture into Area Zero and unearth some of the mysterious Paradox Pokémon that lived there. Now, as The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero downloadable content approaches, trainers have the chance to add a new Paradox Pokémon to their teams.
For players who bought Pokémon Scarlet, that Paradox Pokémon is the ancient version of Suicune, Walking Wake. After defeating and catching it in a Tera Raid Battle, trainers can bring this new Pokémon to battles against their friends and in-game trainers. Here’s the best moveset for Walking Wake in Pokémon Scarlet.
Strengths and weaknesses

Walking Wake boasts high Special Attack and Speed stats, making it well-suited to be a fast sweeper. Naturally, the best moveset for Walking Wake would include exclusively special moves. While its defensive stats are fairly low, it boasts a solid defensive typing. As a Water/Dragon-type, its only weaknesses are Dragon and Fairy. Meanwhile, it has double resistances against Fire and Water.
This Pokémon shares its signature Ability, Protosynthesis, with the majority of the ancient Paradox Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet. If Walking Wake is in the sun or is holding a Booster Energy, Protosynthesis will grant it a boost to its highest stat, its Special Attack. As a result, Walking Wake will be most effective in competition as part of a sun team.
In addition, the Walking Wake that players can obtain from the in-game raid has Water as its Tera type, which can add to its defensive utility. Upon Terastallizing, it will take neutral damage from the Dragon and Fairy-types that would normally threaten it. While it gains a weakness to Grass, Grass-type Pokémon become less threatening when faced with Fire-type attacks in the sun. As a result, a Terastallized Walking Wake is most vulnerable to Electric-type Pokémon.
Best moveset for Walking Wake in Pokémon Scarlet
Since it lacks potent set-up moves, Walking Wake benefits from running a fully offensive moveset. It gains access to two powerful same-type attack bonus moves: Draco Meteor and Hydro Steam, a new signature Water-type move that does extra damage in the sun.
It can run Flamethrower as a coverage move, since it also does extra damage in the sun and deals super-effective damage against the Grass-types that might otherwise threaten it while Terastallized. Finally, Walking Wake can run Snarl as a support move to deal chip damage to opposing Pokémon while lowering their Special Attack stats.

Since it doesn’t need to use any status moves, Walking Wake can hold the Assault Vest item. The Assault Vest gives it a boost to its weakest relevant stat, its Special Defense. This also couples well with Snarl, allowing Walking Wake to have more staying power than it would otherwise.
Torkoal is the most important teammate for Walking Wake in the current format, since it is the main sun setter thanks to its Ability, Drought. In addition, Walking Wake pairs well with Great Tusk, a Paradox Pokémon that similarly does well in the sun and can also deal with the Electric-types that threaten a Terastallized Walking Wake.
Hydro Steam is the only Water-type move that doesn’t deal decreased damage in harsh sunlight. As a result, Walking Wake could carve out a unique niche as a Water-type that can do well in both sun and rain. This could make it particularly prevalent if the Video Game Championships return to a format where the two best weather setters, Groudon and Kyogre, are legal.
