Atlanta Esports Ventures, a joint venture between Cox Enterprises and Province Inc., has decided to develop the headquarters for Overwatch League franchise Atlanta Reign in Midtown Atlanta.

Atlanta Esports Ventures also recently saw the addition of Call of Duty League franchise Atlanta FaZe to its organization, after a partnership with North American esports organization FaZe Clan. However, it seems the headquarters will only be used for the Atlanta Reign as the team enters the 2020 Overwatch League’s home and away game system.

Atlanta Reign facility

“We are proud to see Atlanta Reign expanding their footprint in Midtown with the opening of this new headquarters,” said Governor Brian P. Kemp, in a release. “Atlanta is quickly becoming a hub for esports in the United States, and this announcement speaks to the strength of Georgia’s vibrant tech and entertainment industries.”

The facility in Midtown Atlanta will result in the creation of 45 new jobs and also come with an investment of $100 million to support the Atlanta esports ecosystem. In July, over 2,700 fans showed up for a series of Overwatch League matches showcasing the Atlanta Reign at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. With ticket prices between $40 and $280, the large crowd in attendance shows that the capital of Georgia has a large esports fanbase.

Esports fanbase in Atlanta

“The State of Georgia has been incredibly supportive of esports in Atlanta. This type of hands-on collaboration with the region not only makes esports accessible to job seekers and fans, but it also assures us that there is no better place for esports than in Atlanta,” said Paul Hamilton, president and CEO of Atlanta Esports Ventures. “The thriving tech and entertainment industries in the city further prove that Atlanta is the right place for esports organizations and digitally savvy professionals to put down roots and succeed.”

Other gaming events have also been hosted in Atlanta, with one being American video game developer Hi-Rez’s 2015 Smite World Championships. The announcement about Atlanta Reign’s upcoming facility comes after similar news from organizations like Team Envy’s Dallas Fuel, Comcast Spectacor’s Philadelphia Fusion, and Kraft Sports and Entertainment’s Boston Uprising franchises.
