Following a career in contenders, his play for RunAway has garnered attention from many Overwatch League teams. As the off-season has gone on, other teams have finalized their Overwatch rosters. This gave Washington the opportunity to pick Assassin up, and add more depth to their DPS line-up.

Assassin’s path to Washington

Assassin’s career started in mid-2018, playing for Pacific contenders team EXL-Esports. He soon moved back to Korean contenders, ending up at RunAway. That was when success started for Assassin, as he helped lead his team to a contenders season win. When he joined the team, RunAway went on a run of finals appearances and tournament victories. However, those Korean contenders finals appearances with RunAway, were all losses.

Genji nerfs Overwatch Jeff Kaplan

At the same time, the team were winning the NetEase Esports tournaments against other regions’ teams. Then, it all culminated at the Asian Gauntlet, where RunAway lost a close series and finished third. Assassin proved to be a smart player with heroes like Genji and Echo. It was clear that the experience gained here, could lead him to a chance at playing in the Overwatch League.

Washington adding more depth

With this signing, the Washington Justice now have four highly skilled DPS players. Out of the two main roles that exist for DPS, hitscan and flex, Assassin fits the flex category. This means his fight for a starting spot will be with Ho-sung “TTuba” Lee. With how TTuba played at the end of last season, it won’t be easy for Assassin to take that spot from him. However, the core Washington have built has improved from last year, with the signing of players like Jun-ho “Fury” Kim. If the team keeps Assassin on the heroes he specializes in, Washington’s depth just continues to grow.
