Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG February 2022 banlist: What it means for Master Duel

The TCG and Master Duel have similar meta games. With the TCG updating their list here is what Master Duel players can expect.

On Thursday, Konami announced a new update to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game Forbidden/Limited list. Many cards in the physical card game shifted around in the new list. With the release of Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, TCG players have found themselves playing the new official simulator for the game and with it, an influx of strategies that are found in the TCG. Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel has a different banlist than the TCG does, but with both Master Duel and the TCG having similar metagames, here is a look at what the Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel banlist could look like based on the recent TCG one.

What this means for Master Duel

There were quite a few cards that are now in sync in both the TCG and Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel. For instance, Skill Drain is now fully unlimited in both games. Other cards that are on the same page in both games are Scapegoat, Danger! Nessie!, Performapal Skullcrobat Joker and Emergency Teleport.

When it comes to cards being un-restricted in the next Master Duel banlist update, Raigeki is a card that the TCG just unlimited;Master Duel can follow suit. The same can be said about Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon.

However, when it comes to cards getting restricted, the TCG banlist made hits to some of the game’s best decks notably Bird-Up and Drytron. In the TCG, Bird Up got hit by the banlist in the form of a limit on Lyrilusc – Recital Starling and a ban on Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty. Those cards may suffer the same fate in Master Duel soon. Drytron got a hit with the ban of Eva. Another card that could be hit is Pot of Desires which went to limited in the TCG banlist.

The TCG has cards from Dawn of Majesty and Burst of Destiny which have powered up their metagame to include the Swordsoul archetype and a new staple card, Destiny HERO – Destroyer Phoneix Enforcer. Both Swordsoul and “DPE” have been hit in the TCG with the banning of Archnemeses Protos and the semi-limit of Fusion Destiny. In the future, after those cards come out in Master Duel, those could be targets on a Master Duel banlist.
