Women in Esports, an initiative by the British Esports Association, has launched a VALORANT tournament for women and marginalized genders.
The Lioness Cup is a VALORANT tournament that will take place from Oct. 8-9. It will also be livestreamed over on Twitch.
Women in Esports and VALORANT
The Lioness Cup is part of an ongoing commitment by Women in Esports to build a more inclusive space for players. With the VALORANT esports event, competitors will get a chance to be recognized for their gameplay without toxicity and discrimination.
Interested players can sign up for the Lioness Cup though the Women in Esports Discord server, with applications closing on Oct. 5. The Lioness Cup will feature a total of 32 teams of five and two subs from across the EMEA region. Those who are 16+ can enter with a team and become the inaugural Lioness Cup champions.
Interest in all-female tournaments skyrocket
Originally, the Women in Esports VALORANT tournament had only 16 teams. However, an unprecedented amount of signups led to the increase to 32 teams.
According to the email announcement, this VALORANT tournament will follow the success of the showmatch that happened at Insomnia 69.
The British Esports Association launched the Women in Esports initiative back in 2019. The campaign aimed to support women who aspire to be professional gamers or are looking into career prospects.
“The Women in Esports campaign will be something British Esports does continuously as an [organization] and has no campaign end date,” the announcement revealed.
