Will Starfield be on PS5?

Exclusivity is a... bummer

2023 is jam-packed with incredible games and there are still several more high-profile releases in store for 2023. One of those future releases is Starfield, the latest game to come from Bethesda Game Studios. Starfield is an outer space RPG that will feature more content than any previous Bethesda title before it. While all of this is exciting, some fans, namely those on PS5, are wondering if they will get the chance to play Starfield at all.

Back in 2021, Microsoft completed a major acquisition of Bethesda and its parent company, Zenimax. This basically meant that all future Bethesda games would be Microsoft-exclusive and arrive only on Xbox and PC. However, Starfield was well underway in its development at that point, and fans are curious if that exclusivity applies to Starfield or not.

You can see if Starfield will be arriving on PS5 now or in the future in the guide below.

Will PS5 ever see a Starfield release?

When Is The Starfield Release Date?

Unfortunately for all PS5 fans, Bethesda’s new outer space RPG will never come to Sony’s flagship console. While Starfield was already in development when the Microsoft acquisition went through, this still gave the developers plenty of time to abandon any possible PS5 port.

While Bethesda was seemingly given a choice by Microsoft to develop a PS5 port, the executives at Bethesda have stated that endeavor would have cost even more delays to Starfield.

So, as it currently stands, Starfield will only be arriving on Xbox Series X|S and PC. This is crushing news for any PS5 user, but especially to those who are massive fans of Bethesda’s other IPs, such as Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. If you want to play Starfield, though, you will have to either find a capable PC or purchase a new Xbox.
