Before the Season 5 update in Call of Duty: Warzone, a few different weapons dominated the meta. The KG M40 and STG44 were the top dogs in the assault rifle class; the Armaguerra 43 stood alone as the best submachine gun. However, there was always a lurker in the meta that didn’t fit it into either of these classes. The UGM-8 light machine gun kept growing stronger as Season 4 progressed, and now one Warzone YouTuber believes it has surpassed every other weapon in the game.
Despite receiving a small nerf in Season 5, YouTuber WhosImmortal has made it known that they think the UGM-8 is currently ahead of any other gun. While weapons like the Grau 5.56, Vargo-S, and even the new weapons in the EX1 and RA 225 are certainly in meta contention, the UGM-8 possesses all of the necessary qualities to be crowned the best weapon.
The only nerf that the UGM received in Season 5 was a small increase in its sustained recoil. WhosImmortal believes that because the UGM-8 was already so accurate that this nerf didn’t change much in its meta status. The YouTuber called the UGM-8 “the number one pick,” putting it over any popular assault rifle in Warzone.
The YouTuber also went into some changes in the submachine gun category. Due to the Armaguerra 43’s nerfs in Season 5, WhosImmortal has claimed the Vanguard PPSh-41 as the top SMG due to its buffed range and better magazine options. So if players are looking for the best meta loadout weapons in Warzone Season 5, they should try out the UGM-8 paired with the Vanguard PPSh-41.
Of course, this is subject to change as the season goes on. As we’ve seen before, Raven isn’t afraid to make weapon changes on the fly; an update next week could completely alter the meta. For now, though, the UGM-8 appears to be the king of the hill in Warzone.
