Warcraft Mobile content is planned for 2022

Are we finally getting that pet battler?

Warcraft content is headed to mobile devices in 2022, according to the Activision Blizzard financial report for 2021.

Although what exactly Blizzard means by mobile Warcraft content, the soon-to-be Microsoft studio called it “all-new” and, meaning the upcoming title will not be limited to the existing Missions app feature for World of Warcraft. Additionally, Blizzard said it plans to add substantial new content for World of Warcraft in 2022, while the community is ramping up its speculations about what the next expansion could be.

World of Warcraft, as it turns out, is performing well according to the financial report, despite the disgruntled fans voicing their displeasure with the Shadowlands expansion on social media. In fact, according to Activision Blizzard’s financial report, “World of Warcraft delivered its strongest engagement and net bookings outside of a Modern expansion year in a decade.”

Warcraft Mobile, a much-requested addition

Regardless of the uncertainty of what Warcraft Mobile might entail, many fans have repeatedly asked for some kind of mobile integration for World of Warcraft over the years. A way to do pet battles on mobile devices is an oft-suggested feature.

Direct integration of main platform games with mobile is growing more and more common. Teamfight Tactics, Genshin Impact, Pokémon UNITE, Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Hearthstone and Minecraft are notable examples, while Warcraft is a clear absence in the space apart from the few missions players were able to start and complete after a several hours’ wait.

Whether Blizzard means the full World of Warcraft experience can soon be enjoyed on mobile devices is unclear (and unlikely), but fans immediately jokingly referred to Diablo Immortal’s infamous “Do you guys not have phones?” line.

Regardless of which path Blizzard takes for mobile content, fans will soon be able to enjoy the world of Azeroth on the go in some form. The next World of Warcraft expansion is not yet announced, but would it be unreasonable to think about it receiving some kind of Warcraft Mobile integration and getting an official reveal alongside the expansion, or should we be looking toward something closer to a spin-off?
