Twitch will change the PogChamp emote every 24 hours

Recently, Twitch removed the PogChamp emote due to a series of controversial tweets from the person pictured in the emote. The major streaming platform won’t be without an emote for long, however, as they just revealed a new plan.

Here’s what will happen with the emote and where they got the idea.

Twitch will temporarily change the PogChamp emote

A tweet from the ever-popular Sean “Day9” Plott suggested that Twitch should create a database of streamer faces and whenever someone uses the PogChamp emote, it randomly selects one of the faces to use. Twitch took the idea to heart but changed it up a bit.

Starting today, the PogChamp emote will be a random face that changes every 24 hours. Today’s emote features Kenny “unroolie” McWild, a Mortal Kombat YouTuber.

What is the emote?

PogChamp is one of the most popular emotes on Twitch. It originally symbolized a person with a goofy and excited look on their face. PoG is an acronym for “Play of the Game,” and the community took to using the emote when something exciting happened on stream, for example, if the streamer made a big play in the game they were playing.

Ever since 2012, the emote pictured the same person. After recent events, that person made a series of controversial political tweets which led to the streaming platform’s decision to change the emote. It seems like, for the time being, the emote will change every day.

Twitch hasn’t stated whether this is a permanent solution, but it likely won’t be. Expect to see them settle on a new emote sometime in the future. They will have plenty of great candidates in the coming weeks as they rotate through emotes each day.
