American game developer Epic Games and Twitch will partner to host a Fortnite Mobile tournament. With a $20,000 prize pool on the line, next week’s Twitch Rivals event will pit 12 Twitch content creators against each other. Fortnite has seen great success on its PC title, but the mobile port also boasts its own fanbase.

Fortnite Mobile on Twitch Rivals

The Twitch Rivals Fortnite Mobile tournament will take place on Dec. 9 at 3:00 p.m. CT, consisting of three teams of four players each. Competitors will have three hours to earn as many points as possible, most likely with the scoring system that traditional Fortnite events use.

The 2019 Fortnite World Cup for Duos gave out 10 points for a victory royale, 7 points for 2nd – 5th, 5 points for 6th – 10th, and 3 points for 11 – 15th, while eliminations gave 1 point each. However, the Twitch Rivals tournament will be in the Squads mode on mobile devices and tablets. As such, it could alter the scoring system.

The first-place team will take home $10,000 out of the $20,000 prize pool. In addition, all participating players will earn a Samsung Galaxy 10 smartphone for their involvement. Some of the confirmed players so far include Drew “Surfnboy” Snediker, DuckyTheGamer, Jojo, SSNSanta, and RolandGT. No further information has been disclosed about the tournament’s rules, schedule, or format. The action will be streamed on the Twitch Rivals channel.

Fortnite Mobile generated 35 million downloads in its first month through an exclusive App Store release. It went on to hit 100 million downloads in less than five months, with over $160 million earned through in-app purchases. Even though the mobile battle royale title has a large player base, there aren’t as many esports events compared to the PC version. Will we see more mobile events on Twitch Rivals in the future?
