In Space Marine 2, customizing your loadout and appearance can be done after returning from the first mission, Skyfire. After my success (and constant failures) in Kadaku, I decided to build the strongest loadout I could imagine — well, for this stage of the game at least.

Ready? Let’s dive in.

You have 3 weapons that you can carry at any time, a primary, secondary, and melee weapon.

Fit your playstyle

Perhaps you favor movement, prefer to fight at range, or maybe you just like to hack, slash, and brawl it out in the middle. Just remember, your loadout is meant to fit your play style.

Primary Weapon

At this stage, you have access to the following weapons:

  • Bolt Carbine: mid-range; low firepower; high rate of fire.
  • Oculus Bolt Carbine: mid-range; low firepower; high rate of fire; improved range.
  • Melta Rifle: close-range; thermal weapon; high firepower; high piercing ability.
  • Auto Bolt Rifle: close-range; low firepower; good rate of fire.
  • Bolt Rifle: precision rifle; improved firepower & piercing ability;  increased range.

Based on the enemies we’ve encountered thus far, we’re in between swarms of Tyranid cannon fodder and armoured aliens. So, we need something to help us both clear the way and break armour.

My pick: Melta Rifle

The Melta Rifle offers both insane firepower and piercing ability. Its super-heated blasts cover a large area at close-range, great for clearing swarms of enemies. And, its piercing ability ensures that you can easily break down tougher enemies’ armour.

Secondary Weapon

At this stage, you have access to the following weapons:

  • Bolt Pistol: precision pistol; low firepower; decent rate of fire; good range, reload speed & ammo reserve.
  • Plasma Pistol: mid-range; rapid-fire; average firepower, good accuracy & range.
  • Heavy Bolt Pistol: mid-range; good firepower; great accuracy & range.

Unfortunately, I haven’t had the pleasure of using the Plasma Rifle. But, I have used the others, and according to my playstyle which is, “struggle to move because I’m pressing the wrong buttons”, I’m favoring a power-based loadout that’ll clear out enemies quickly (before they get too close).

My pick: Heavy Bolt Pistol

The Heavy Bolt Pistol offers me a powerful weapon that can one-shot enemies from afar, also, its small mag size is accommodated for with a fast reload speed.

Melee Weapon

At this stage, you have access to the following weapons:

  • Chainsword: moderate-speed chainsaw-come-sword; good strength, speed & cleaving potential.
  • Combat Knife: high-speed duelling slicer with lower strength and cleaving potential.

My pick: Chainsword

The Chainsword is great for taking out small and larger enemies (especially when being swarmed from all directions. Plus, the sound of a chainsaw ripping through Tyranid flesh and bone—gross…but so satisfying!

Secondry weapon: Heavy Bolt Pistol

Weapon availability is dependent upon the requirements of the current mission, so this guide will be updated as I progress through the game.
