The new airship map for Among Us is arriving on March 31, Innersloth has announced. The map introduces a host of new tasks and will come with a free update that introduces accounts.

The airship map was originally revealed in December 2020, but it took another three months to get an official release date. Innersloth goes into detail in their latest dev log why it has taken so long, in response to the community’s requests for more information about the map. The small studio remains grateful for audience patience and has included new, unspecified things in-game as a thank you.

All new tasks and options

The Among Us update will, of course, introduce a new map, but that’s not all. It will have a host of gameplay changes including new tasks, different ways to sabotage, and new methods of traversing the map. Players will be able to use ladders to get from one place to another, as well as choose the room they start from after every meeting.

Innersloth is also introducing accounts for easier moderation. The free-join nature of the game is leading to many annoying instances of hackers and other ne’er-do-wells. Accounts should make those a little easier to deal with.

New skins are coming to the game as well and Inntersloth teases extra new hats because the community has been so patient for the new map.

Behind the scenes of Among Us

Among Us blew up in popularity long after the studio had finished the game. They had already moved on when it suddenly exploded.

But while the popularity of a small studio’s game can be exciting, it does mean a lot of work for a team of just five people.

“Because our game is cross-platform, it means EVERYTHING needs to work on as many devices as possible. (Every kind of smartphone and its various versions, console, etc.)” said Innersloth in their dev log. “You may have noticed most modifications to the game focus on just PC, as that makes development much easier.”

Whereas Innersloth used to be able to push updates quickly and regularly, the nature of cross-platform releases has slowed the process down. Development on the airship map came to a complete stop when Innersloth decided it was time for a Nintendo Switch release.

“If all we had to do was make a map for PC, and mobile and release it, we might have finished it last year. But it wasn’t going to be as good as we wanted and it would have messed with the Switch launch, so we hard-stopped to improve Switch launch.”

Now that everything has been sorted, from servers, to host accounts, to making sure everything meets safety and privacy regulations, Among Us fans will be glad to hear they can finally play on the long-awaited Airship map very soon.
