It is an exciting time for Tekken 7 fans as information on 2019’s World Tour just dropped from Bandai Namco. Check out the trailer below, which includes details on the new tournament categories, the new finals location, as well as how ranking points will break down for the year.
Around the world
This year the Tekken World Tour will have $185,000 up for grabs with a $100,000 baseline purse for the finals. Twitch will once again be the exclusive streaming platform for the tournament, as well as a managing partner for the entire World Tour. The first stop on the tour is MIXUP in Lyon, France and it’ll then continue throughout the year with stops in the UK, Germany, Poland, Sweden, Australia, and more. Plus, for the first time ever, official tournaments are coming to Dubai, Greece, and South Africa.
The finals will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, and more info will be shared at a later date. 19 players will fight for the title of “King of the Iron Fist” and there will also be a last-chance qualifier tournament before the finals where Tekken 7 competitors will duke it out for the 20th spot.
For Tekken‘s 2019 World Tour, tournaments are separated into different categories like Master+, Master, Challenger, and now Dojo. The latter type is new for this year and it’ll open the door for independent organizers to apply and have their tournaments recognized by the World Tour.
As players compete, they’ll earn ranking points that’ll dictate their placement on the leaderboard. “Players can compete in as many tournaments as needed to earn high placements, but once they have secured three max level results from Master or Challenger tournaments, and four max level Dojo tournaments, no additional results in those categories will count towards their rank,” explained Bandai Namco. “This way more players will be able to earn points and the leaderboard won’t be as skewed towards a small handful of players.”
2019 promises to be another exciting year for the Tekken World Tour. Who will come out on top? Make sure to check out the first stop of the tour at MIXUP in Lyon, France!
