After three days of Apex Legends action in Kraków, the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational is over and we have our champions. Team SoloMid took the win after a crazy 11-round final. Still fresh off their win at the Apex Legends EXP Invitational, they began the day as one of 20 teams to make into the finals, including heavyweights like Rogue, MVP, and Na’Vi.
Team SoloMid’s victory was impossible to predict at the start of the day. Their highest placement in the first five games of the finals was top 7, and they only got match point eligibility in game 6. “Our start was horrible,” SoloMid’s Phillip “ImperialHal” Dosen said, adding he didn’t exactly understand how they managed to come back and win. At the end of the day, they walk away with $105,000 in prize money and the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational champions title.
At an event already full of unexpected developments, there was also a surprise with the Apex Predator special award. The $8,000 prize would have normally gone to the one player who scored the most kills during the championship. However, players from Na’Vi and Wyvern shared a three-way tie in that category. Kirill “9impulse” Kostiv, An “Selly” Jeong-hwanwill, and Nikita “clawz” Marchinsky will be splitting the prize.
Final round recap
At the start of game 10 of the Apex Legends Preseason Invitational finals, almost half of the lobby had match point eligibility. This naturally led to a protracted, hyper-careful match, with no squad eliminations until the third ring. The majority of action came in the form of Longbow duels at Hydro Dam, during which all match point teams fell.
Team Sentinels won game 10, going into the next game with match point eligibility. Finally, in game 11, after 6 hours and 44 minutes, Team SoloMid managed to get the one win that counts. You can check out the standings of all 20 Apex Legends Preseason Invitational finalists.
