The Dutchman’s signing is a coup for the organization, as few players have played at such a consistently high level as Mitr0. The player made his first tournament appearance back in week 2 of the Fortnite Summer Skirmish.
A rising star
He quickly made a name for himself as one of the best players in the game and forged a partnership with Max “Magin” Merrien as part of Team Atlantis. Following a win in Summer Skirmish week 2, many considered this duo the best in the game.
Since then he has played in every major Fortnite competition including an appearance at last summer’s Fortnite World Cup. He qualified for the event as a duo alongside FaZe’s Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson. With a sixth place finish at the event, the pair took home $450,000.
The partnership proved so fruitful that when trios became the competitive game mode in Fortnite Champion Series: Season X, they added Benjy “Benjyfishy” David Fish. The three-man squad went on a run that included four 1st place finishes in just five qualifying weeks.
Unfortunately, a poor performance in the tournament’s finals ended that working relationship. However, their reputations as some of the best players in the game became concrete.
He played his entire Fortnite career representing Team Atlantis, but that relationship ended in acrimony last September. The organization was unable to find a mutually beneficial outcome with Mitr0, who felt he had outgrown his original contract.
With talks in deadlock, rumours began swirling about the contract’s terms and #FreeMitr0 began globally trending on Twitter. As a result, players like Turner “Tfue” Teeney began throwing their weight behind the cause. Team Atlantis, facing unrelenting pressure on social media, decided to release Mitr0 from his contract.
Looking to the future
Mitr0 joins the organization as the 9th player on their roster and their first-ever EU player. The roster includes Noah “Vivid” Wright, Thomas “72hrs” Mulligan, Alessandro “Fiber” Bonetello, River “Riversan” Handley and Ryan “Chap” Chaplo.
