Team Liquid have become the latest team to qualify to PGL Major Antwerp 2022 through the American Regional Major Rankings event. They are the fifth team to net themselves a place at the major, following Complexity, Imperial Esports, MIBR and FURIA Esports.
During Day 3 of the American RMR, Liquid and Complexity became the first non-Brazilian teams to qualify. MIBR and FURIA were the first two teams to secure their spot and will have to play a tiebreaker to see who will get the sole Legends spot allotted to the Americas. The third Brazilian team, Imperial, also made a splash by securing their spot, which means Lincoln “fnx” Lau will have a chance to defend his 100% major win rate.
With five spots locked in, only one more team can qualify for the major out of the American RMR. Six teams still remain at the event: São Caetano Esports, 9z Team, paiN Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Party Astronauts and Case Esports. Analysts see paiN or Evil Geniuses as the favorites to snag the spot, though that won’t be decided until the end of the sixth place tiebreakers on Friday.
American RMR Day 3
Day 3 saw the former “Last Dance” roster of Imperial, led by Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, secure their PGL Major Antwerp spot. It took a close 2-1 battle with Party Astronauts before the team achieved victory. Imperial have a massive Brazilian following and their presence at the major will likely benefit the viewership and prestige of the entire event.
Team Liquid and Complexity became the only North American teams to qualify through the American RMR thus far, both winning their matches in 2-0 fashion. Complexity stomped Caetano while Liquid took a bit longer to put away EG. Liquid and Complexity are currently the top two NA teams, according to HLTV’s world rankings.
The PGL Major Antwerp 2022 runs from May 9-22 in Antwerp, Belgium.
