Earlier today, the Twitter account of the esports team T1 made a major announcement revealing its new partner. The new partner is none other than the clothing brand Nike. Nike is one of the largest brand sponsors in the traditional sports scene.

Nike expands its reach into esports

The clothing brand Nike first entered the esports scene in February of 2019. The first deal Nike made was with China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL). Nike is providing all LPL rosters with clothing and footwear in a 4-year partnership with the league. Later into 2019, Nike sponsored its first player in the esports scene. This player was none other than Jian “Uzi” Zi-hao. For those unfamiliar, Uzi is by far the most popular esports personality in the Chinese League of Legends scene.

Now, on Jan. 16, 2020 the brand has signed this major deal with an esports organization, T1. T1 is the most successful team in Korea. The organization is most known for its multitude of League of Legends World Championship titles and regional competition victories. However, the organization also fields teams in several other games within the esports scene. Two examples of this are the sponsored players in Fortnite and Hearthstone. Besides these players, T1 also has an Overwatch Contenders roster and a team of Apex Legends players.

What will the partnership consist of?

Not a lot of the information surrounding the partnership has been revealed yet. However, it is to be expected that the deal will include similar aspects to the other brand deals Nike has made in the past. This would include specially designed footwear and uniforms for the teams and players of T1. Besides this, we can also expect new merch for the fans to obtain soon.
