Genesis 8 will be held on the weekend of January 28 through 30. The three-day event will take place in San Jose and will be held at the same venue as last instalment of the Genesis tournament series. The SJ McEnery Convention Center will play host to the “World’s largest grassroots smash event” and will feature tournaments for Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Super Smash Bros. 64. On top of that, the event will also feature Rivals of Aether. As Genesis 7 was one of the last major smash in-person smash tournaments before the COVID-19 pandemic began, Genesis 8 will be one of the first in-person smash majors in nearly two years.

The Genesis tournament series has been a pillar in the Smash Bros. scene since its inception. Also it’s one of the most prestigious smash events in the world. Players from across the globe travel to Northern California every year to compete at this event. The event has also become famous in recent years for having its top 8 bracket for each event played in the historic San Jose Civic theater. The top 8 venue is also back this year.
