Magic: The Gathering Core Set 2021 spoilers have brought us many excellent and unique three-drops, and Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner is one of them. Subira is a 2/3 Legendary Human Shaman creature with haste that can be cast for 2 and a red.
A much-needed ally
She comes equipped with two abilities. For 1 mana, another creature you control with power 2 or less receives unblockable for the rest of the turn. The second effect can be activated for 2 and a red. It is a tap ability that makes you discard your hand. If you activate this ability, for the rest of your turn, each time a creature you control with power 2 or less deals damage to the opponent, you draw a card.
Right off the bat, it is hard not to draw parallels with Bomat Courier. Subira has an obvious place in Standard. She is a great addition to any red aggro deck. This is due to the fact that she gives you sustainability in the late game. She gives you the draw that aggro decks usually desperately need. She might find a place in creature-heavy burn decks as well, serving a vaguely similar role to Risk Factor.
Subira, Tulzidi Caravanner in other formats
She will most likely not have any impact on Legacy or Modern, as her activated abilities take too much mana for what they give. However, in Commander, she will undoubtedly be at the helm of many decks. Her abilities make for some extremely fast and exciting gameplay. Her effect is extremely useful for most creature-based decks, giving you the opportunity to press the aggressive play style of red.
While not as imposing as Fiery Emancipation, Subira is hands-down a card that you take when you see it in limited. She gives fast decks sustainability and a little bit of value to anything else. The 3 toughness that she boasts helps her resist creatures with 2 power, a common stat for 1- and 2-drops.
