When you are trying to research a project in Starfield, the last thing you want to see is that you don’t have a material you need to complete it. One of the common resources that players are usually missing is Cosmetic, which can be a very difficult item to find in Starfield.
Cosmetic is an uncommon organic resource that you will primarily need to complete a specific research project. When you first see that you need this resource in Starfield, you will likely have no idea what it is or how to obtain it in the Settled Systems. Luckily, I have a list of locations where you can find a ton of Cosmetic so you don’t have to go looking for it ever again.
Getting Cosmetic in Starfield

Since Cosmetic is not a mineral, you will not be able to mine it using an Extractor at an Outpost. It’s also quite rare to find when looting out in the world. While you might stumble upon Cosmetic every now and again, don’t expect to load up your inventory with it every time you head out on a journey to a new planet or system.

Instead, you will mainly have to purchase Cosmetic from specific vendors around Starfield. These vendors usually have around 5-10 Cosmetic available to buy in the “Resources” tab of their inventory, and it never costs more than eight or so credits.
Here is a list of some of the best vendors to purchase Cosmetic from in Starfield:
- Jemison Mercantile (New Atlantis)
- Shepherd’s Goods (Akila City)
- Newill’s Goods (Neon)
- UC Distribution (New Atlantis)
- Any Trade Authority store
- Zuri’s General Store (The Key)
As you can see, most of these vendors are general traders, which is where you want to look. More specialized vendors like Midtown Miners or Laredo Firearms won’t have Cosmetic available for sale.
