Space Marine 2 Edition differences – which one should you get?

If you’re looking to pick up Warhammer 40k: Space Marine 2, you might be confused by the different editions and aren’t quite sure what you’re getting. Well, here’s a simple and easy breakdown so you can decide how to spend your hard-earned cash.

The difference between Space Marine 2 Editions

There are currently at least four editions of Space Marine 2 out there. Depending on what you buy, here’s what you’ll get.

Standard EditionGold EditionUltra EditionCollector’s Box
The base game
Macragge’s Chosen DLC (really just a skin set)*
Season Pass
Early Access
Ultra Marines Champion DLC (again, it’s just a skin pack)
Resin Statue of Lieutenant Titus
The Art and Making of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 (book)
*Only available on Pre-order

As you can see, the different versions offer different perks. If you’re a fan of the game and you’ll definitely be playing any time a new DLC emerges, getting the Gold Edition might be worth your time. Otherwise, there’s nothing wrong with waiting for the Standard Edition, which launches on September 11, so you’ll only be able to join your friends there.

Should you buy Space Marine 2 at all?

It’s a decent game, but the campaign is fun, but it’s all over faster than you can kill a Carnifex (which you’ll have to do at some point if you’re playing Space Marine 2). It’s just a bit short, although you can still expect to spend 10-20 hours enjoying your latest immersion into the world of Warhammer 40k.

Personally, it’s not a game I enjoy playing alone, but can be a real blast if you’ve got some friends keen to play with. True Warhammer 40k fans will surely find a lot to get excited about though.

Where to find each version?

You’ll find the Standard, Gold, and Ultra versions on Steam or your console’s game store. The collector’s box is a limited edition and it’s not clear whether it’s available anymore, but you could get it from the Focus Entertainment website.

And that’s pretty much all you need to know about Space Marine 2’s different editions and what they have to offer. Personally, I’m hoping we see a lot more from the future DLC’s and if I were a Warhammer fan, I’d opt for the Gold edition.
