North American organization Version1 have benched Chad “Oderus” Miller from the starting roster, multiple sources told Upcomer on Thursday. The team will likely seek other offers for the player from other organizations, though a replacement has not yet been signed.
Oderus spent just more than a month with the organization following his signing with Version1 in October. He played with Version1 during the VALORANT Championship Tour Last Chance Qualifier, which concluded on Oct. 31.
Version1 failed to qualify for Champions, the most anticipated VALORANT event of the year, through the regular season. Therefore, the team had to attempt to qualify through the LCQ, the last regional VALORANT event of the year.
Version1 lost to eventual victors Cloud9 in their opening match, with former in-game leader Anthony “vanity” Malaspina taking down his old team. Version1 managed to defeat FaZe Clan in the lower bracket but were later eliminated by XSET in the second round.
Since the event, Version1 have played in some smaller events to some success. They recently were victors in the NSG Winter Championship — Open 4, which concluded on Nov. 9. They took down TSM Academy in the final after defeating Soniqs and DarkZero Esports during the latter stage of the event.
However, the team was eliminated early from the Community Gaming VALORANT Elite Showdown, which concluded on Sunday. North American team Knights took down Version1 in the round of 32. Knights would go on to finish in second place after falling to Pioneers in the grand finals.
As a result of the move, Version1 will temporarily field the following roster:
- Jordan “Zellsis” Montemurro
- Erik “penny” Penny
- Loic “effys” Sauvageau
- Maxim “wippie” Shepelev
- Oderus (inactive)
- Ian “Immi” Harding (coach)
