SoundCloud partners with Twitch to help musicians earn money

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Popular music sharing app SoundCloud has partnered with Twitch to help creators earn money during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people across the globe are staying at home to prevent infection — and so they turn to Twitch to stream their talents. With this partnership, creators can earn money for the work they create and stream.

In an official announcement on the SoundCloud blog, they address the issues stemming from the COVID-19 situation: “We know COVID-19 has been especially hard on musicians who were scheduled to play live shows over the next few months.” They continue by stating many creators have started streaming to connect with fans.

For this partnership, all SoundCloud Pro, Premier, and Repost by SoundCloud users will be able to earn money from Twitch. They will also be able to fast-track their Affiliate status. On their website, they provide a guide on how to get started.

How to begin

First, interested users will have to set up their Twitch account. Then they are required to fill out a form with questions asking your Artist Name, monthly listens, and more. Once all of that is done, users are able to go into their settings to customize their profiles.

Creators are required to have access to a PC or Mac with a working webcam and microphone. They can use Twitch Studio or OBS to set up their broadcast and connect with their fans.

In order to earn money, fans will need to subscribe to their channel. Creators will also be able to run ads, link to their music or merch store, or link to their donation page.

Helping creators out

This is a big step for plenty of creators out there that are missing out on potential income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the virus continues to spread rapidly, people are told to stay home and cancel all social gatherings. Entertainers are also suffering during this time as they don’t have an audience to entertain — which means a loss of vital income. Now, with the ability to stream on Twitch and upload on SoundCloud, people are given an opportunity to make money.
