Throughout the first few hours of Dying Light 2 Stay Human, the character you’ll have the most interaction with is Hakon. You meet Hakon extremely early on as a part of the main story. The Bazaarian saves you from a hanging and takes you under his wing, showing you around Villedor and teaching you the ropes of the city. However, as the story progresses, you interact less and less with Hakon until you’re met with a hard decision regarding his fate.
The guide below will contain spoilers for the main story of Dying Light 2. If you’ve only played a few hours of Dying Light 2, we suggest coming back to this article when you’re met with the tough decision regarding Hakon. If you need help with the decision or don’t mind spoilers, keep reading below to see what happens with the Bazaarian if you choose either route.
Leaving or saving Hakon in Dying Light 2
The decision to leave Hakon or save him comes after your choice to side with Aitor or Sophie. Once you’ve made your decision, Hakon will tell you to meet him at his hideout on the map. Here, you will discover a wound on his chest that matches the one given to Commander Lucas’ assailant. You’ve spent the last few hours trying to track down who killed the Commander of the Peacekeepers, with Hakon supposedly helping you along the way.
However, it’s revealed to you that Hakon was hired by Waltz, the man you’re trying to hunt down, to kill Lucas. Hakon did his job and even tried to frame Sophie and Barney for the murder. After Hakon tells you all of this, he gets shot with a crossbow by who he thinks is Waltz trying to tie up loose ends.
You’re met with the timed decision of saving Hakon or leaving him to die. If you decide to leave him, you’ll go on and try to make it to the Central Loop. You don’t actually see Hakon meet his end, though.
If you decide to save him, you’ll try and track down the sniper that shot him with a crossbow. You’ll find out that it wasn’t Waltz who tried to kill him, but Lawan, a character you’ll meet later regardless. Lawan has Hakon on her hit list and she’s just trying to kill him, not you.
After this confrontation, you return to Hakon and still leave him, but not to die. Your decision here plays out massively later in Dying Light 2. If Hakon is alive and on good terms with you (Aiden), then the story can play out far differently than if you left him to die.
