The movement mechanics in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have been a topic of debate leading up to Call of Duty Next. From leakers claiming slide canceling isn’t featured in the game to players giving their two cents on the matter, it will be interesting to see the community’s reaction to whatever movement system is featured in multiplayer and Warzone 2. However, a movement mechanic that many fans are overlooking in MW2 is the dolphin dive, which has been confirmed by several sources to currently be included in the game. These sources are also saying that the dolphin dive is extremely overpowered in its current state.

For any new fans to the COD franchise, the dolphin dive is another form of movement. If players hold a certain button, they will launch themselves into the air and end up in a prone position several feet in front of where they started. This was an extremely popular mechanic in Black Ops 1 and 2, but never really made it past those games. According to professional players who have already experienced MW2 and reputable leakers, the dolphin dive is back. But in its current form, the mechanic might need a nerf; especially once the entire community gets their hands on it.

Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro, a CDL pro for OpTic Texas, recently said that he was abusing the dolphin dive during an early playtest of Modern Warfare 2. “It [dolphin diving] is kind of cracked, I’m not gonna lie,” Shotzzy recently said on stream. “I feel like people are gonna abuse it because that’s what I was doing. You’re able to sprint, fly, sprint, fly, that’s all you do.”

COD leaker @TheGhostOfHope chimed in on this conversation, saying that Shotzzy was backing up what they claimed earlier, which was that the dolphin dive was mainly used for offensive purposes. The sliding mechanic, which has reportedly been heavily nerfed, is only meant to be used for defensive purposes. This is the opposite of how sliding has been the past few years, as players have used slide canceling to gain a huge advantage over opponents during a gunfight.

It remains to be seen whether or not the dolphin dive will truly overtake the slide as the main form of movement in MW2. However, fans will get to see for themselves when the multiplayer beta goes live later this week.
