Fortnite is easily accessible to everyone who wants to play as it’s a free-to-play game. For some die-hard fans, however, they want those exclusive physical versions that come with extra perks you may not be able to get otherwise. Some sellers on eBay seem to be honing in on what could become a new market. They are selling sealed physical copies of the game for as much as $1,500.
DLC obtained through store-exclusive bundles – as well as different box art – seems to be what drives buyers to overpay suggested retail pricing for the physical copies. If you don’t want to shell out quite that much, some listings are on the more reasonable end at around $150-300.
Players want to own the real thing
It’s really up to the player on whether they want a digital version or something to proudly display on their game shelf. There is something to be said however for having the real thing compared to a digital-only version.
The magic of owning an exclusive bundle or case seems very much alive and well and people are willing to pay big bucks. Epic Games has yet to release a physical version of Fortnite: Save the World, but when that happens, you can be sure it will sell out. Whether or not we see people paying crazy amounts to own it remains to be seen. If collectors want to avoid inflated prices on these eBay listings, they can always try their local standalone video game store or Facebook Marketplace. Personally, I like a good mix of digital and physical copies.
If a game comes out with a sweet pre-order bonus you can be sure that myself and others are more likely to purchase it. Digital games are good if you don’t want clutter, but exclusive bundles last forever. Let us know what you prefer in the comments below.
