Rotten Saddle Exploration guide — Once Human

Rotten Saddle is likely the last exploration in Chalk Peak, if you’re speed-running to the end. It’s an easy exploration, but there is a pretty tough Elite Enemy there. However, if you have tier IV gear, you should be just fine.

So let’s quickly go over where you can find the weapon and armor crates, the storage crates, and the Mystical Crate at Rotten Saddle.

There are two Mystical Crates at Rotten Saddle. The first hidden Mystical Crate (marked in purple on the map above) can be found in the campsite on the north-eastern edge of the area, and it’s a pretty easy find.

The Mystical Crate that’s required to complete the exploration can be found on the roof of the large red building in the north-western side of town. To get up there, you’ll need to enter one of the buildings in the courtyard and make your way up.

For the record, I entered the building opposite the one with the Mystical Chest, and managed to glide my way over. Now let’s find all the weapon and armor crates, shall we?

Your first gear crate is inside a green house towards the south of the area, opposite the large red buildings, and can be found on the upper floor.

Our next crate, a weapon crate, can be found in the center of town among the market stalls. This is near where you’ll fight the Sinner Siren Elite Enemy in Rotten Saddle.

The final gear crate in town can be found in the large red building where the Mystical Crate was found. It’s on the first floor, new the windows. Just head down (or up) the stairs, and you’ll see it on the other side of the room.

Finally, the last weapon crate can be found in one of the eastern-most buildings, near an elite enemy.

Simply head inside this doorway and up the stairs, and you’ll find it.

There are two Elite Enemies in Rotten Saddle. The first is a Sinner Siren, which you’ll find in the center of town near the market stalls. It’s not a very difficult fight, and you’ll be fine if you’ve got tier 4 gear, or calibrated tier 3 gear.

The next Elite we encounter is a bit tougher, and it’s the Chagas Weevil. Weevils are usually tiny… this one is not. It’s a tough boss with powerful melee attacks, and if you’re under powered, you might want to engage him from a rooftop.

He is found in between some buildings towards the western edge of the area.

I’ve marked all of the storage crate locations on the map above. Be careful of the ones marked in yellow, since they’re Mimic Crates and will attack you. Head to the location on the map and hit Q to activate space time, and this should lead you to the exact location of the storage crate.

Some of them are on the upper floor of buildings, so space time will be your guide.

And that’s all there is to do at Rotten Saddle. There are some more optional areas to explore in Chalk Peaks, with very strong bosses (I struggled to beat them with fully calibrated tier 4 gear). So if you’re up for a challenge, go visit the three remaining explorations in Chalk Peak.

Else, it’s time to scope out where to find Automatic Parts so you can get your gear fully upgraded to Tier 5.

One last thing

There is a bugged chest at Rotten Saddle in a wall on the docks. It kind of looks like a gear crate, so you might want to go take a look. Perhaps it won’t be bugged for you and you’ll be able to get it? I tried, but couldn’t manage to grab it.
