Just a little over a week after Frosty Fest ended, Rocket League is introducing a new event, Lucky Lanterns. This event is a celebration of the Lunar New Year, which takes place on Jan. 25. Like previous events, Rocket League will offer event-specific cosmetics as well as items from the several Series. Also coming with Lucky Lanterns is the Forbidden Temple map, which brings Chinese culture to the forefront.
Lucky Lanterns will take place from Jan. 20 until Feb. 10. There’s no word on if any additional update will accompany it.
Rocket League introduces Lucky Lanterns event
Psyonix seems quite keen on its in-game events for Rocket League, and for good reason. The events give players additional reasons for playing, as there are a ton of cosmetic rewards available to earn.
If you’re unfamiliar with how Rocket League events work, here’s a quick rundown. Every match you play during the event, whether it’s casual or competitive, earns you currency. For Lucky Lanterns, you will earn Red Envelopes. You can then exchange this currency for a multitude of event-specific cosmetics. Anything from toppers to banners to goal explosions to boosts and trails is available to earn.
Also, there are additional items up for grabs in the Golden Lanterns. These cost 150 Red Envelopes and will reward you with a random item from the Impact, Overdrive, and Victory Series. However, you can only purchase five of these.
Forbidden Temple map to make its debut
It’s not too often we see a new map in Rocket League, but Psyonix clearly feels the Lunar New Year deserves something special. Forbidden Temple takes everything great about Chinese culture and mashes it together perfectly for the new arena. You can take a look at some of the Forbidden Temple in the video below.
